Opening reception: Vecinos y Amigos: Bert Geer Phillips and his Neighbors
Join us for a reception celebrating the new art exhibition called Vecinos y Amigos: Bert Geer Phillips and his Neighbors. Phillips was a member of the Taos Society of Artists in the early 20th century who became a steadfast member of the local community.
“Our exhibition seeks to expand our knowledge of the context of those few paintings of Bert's in which people in the Hispanic community modeled, to identify them, and to enrich the artist's stories with theirs,” said Davison Koenig, CSHS executive director and curator. “And we’re fortunate that it’s also a beautiful show featuring some of his best work, as well as key objects and archival material.”
The public reception with light refreshments will be in and around the Dean Porter Gallery, Lunder Research Center at Couse-Sharp Historic Site, 138 Kit Carson Road, Taos.
The exhibition will be open through February 28, generally Tuesday-Saturday 1-5 p.m. except major holidays (see couse-sharp.org for details). Free admission (donations welcomed).
