Lecture: Chicago’s Outsized Impact on Northern New Mexico Art
Lenore Macdonald is excited to bring her presentation "Chicago’s Outsized Impact on Northern New Mexico Art" to Taos, after getting rave reviews on it in the Windy City earlier this year.
National Advisory Council member and former Trustee Lenore Macdonald takes us back to the mid- to late 1800s, from that upstart city on the prairie, Chicago, to the mountains of northern New Mexico, explaining the outsized and important impact that Chicago civic and business leaders, corporations, institutions, media, artists, and others had, over a century ago, upon our fledgling art community in our small, remote town in the Sangre de Cristos.
"Did those urban movers and shakers realize that they and the art that they supported would have international impact, create a lasting legacy and ultimately give us The Couse Foundation and Couse-Sharp Historic Site?" Lenore asks.
All are welcome for the free educational talk, which will include photo slides and take place in the 1915 J. H. Sharp Studio on the CSHS campus. Paid parking available a half block east in the municipal lot on Kit Carson Road, with free parking for those with disabled permits available on site.
Please note: Because of the site’s nature as a place of historic preservation, most buildings and grounds are not ADA accessible.
